Andrew J. Paine and Yvonne H. Shaheen receive highly esteemed Whistler Award

The Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee presented Pat Early with the Charles L. Whistler Award. The annual award recognizes one or two individuals who, outside the regular duties of their chosen professions, have brought together the public and private sectors for civic improvement in Indianapolis.

Andrew J. Paine, Jr., President and CEO of NBD Bank, N.A. (retired), has contributed immensely to the economic growth of the City of Indianapolis through his support of the arts, education, racial harmony and the internationalization of Indiana business. He has made significant contributions to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Andy played a major role with Community Leaders Allied for Superior Schools (CLASS) and with other initiatives that improved Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) and Indianapolis education in general. Andy was one of the most influential leaders of the Japan-U.S. Midwest Association that encouraged Japanese executives to come and enjoy Indiana and he helped improve American attitudes toward Japanese employers and foreign business. Andy has also served on numerous boards, including DePauw University, Arthur Jordan Foundation, United Way of Central Indiana, Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership and many others.

Yvonne H. Shaheen, President and CEO of Long Electric Company, Inc., has been an incredible power for the betterment of Indianapolis whose generous giving of herself has made a difference to her company, to civic boards and to the city’s progress.  Yvonne has donated her time and talent for fundraising for worthwhile causes such as the Boy Scouts of Central Indiana, the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk, and The Arthritis Foundation. Yvonne has helped to improve education by working with the President’s Council at Purdue University where she formed relationships between the community and the school so each could share its resources. Yvonne has also been active in the economic development of Indianapolis as a future business site. She has served on numerous boards, including The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, American United Life Insurance, Corporate Community Council, Girl Scouts of America, Health and Hospital Commission, Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, IUPUI, Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee and many more.
