Tell us more about you!
I’m a Charleston, SC, native, the oldest of three in a family where entrepreneurship is just part of who we are—my dad owned a radio station, my grandad a barbershop, and my grandma developed real estate. I took this heritage with me, a southern belle learning to navigate snow, to the Midwest to study at Ball State University as a HUD Fellow in Urban and Regional Planning, after my political science undergrad at the University of South Carolina.
My leadership roles have included serving as the past president of the National Association of Women Business Owners – Indianapolis and as a member of the Governance Committee for the Indy Chamber. Then in 2005, after nearly a decade in State government, Venita Moore, Debbie Wilson, and I took our collective vision and founded Engaging Solutions to shape a legacy for our families, bolstered by our connection through Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
My two sons, BJ and Myles, who are charting their own courses at Purdue, with graduations in May 2024 and Summer 2025, respectively, give me endless joy and motivation. They, along with my passions for cooking, shopping, ministry, travel, and the simple comfort found in family moments—resting my head on my dad’s shoulder, in my mom’s lap, debating with my lawyer brother, and sharing laughs and art discoveries with my sister—keep me grounded. They are my anchors.
In all that I do, from my professional endeavors to personal pursuits, I am driven by the hope to make a tangible impact and to leave this world a little better than I found it.
Can you share more about Engaging Solutions’ history?
On the Martin Luther King holiday in 2005, a day typically observed in remembrance and reflection, marked the inception of Engaging Solutions. Founded by three partners, including myself, Venita Moore, and Deborah Simmons Evans—all then active State of Indiana employees—this holiday became the launching pad for our entrepreneurial venture.
