INDIANAPOLIS, IN (April 1, 2016) – The new Executive Director of the private, not-for- profit Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee has dedicated herself to public service for over 25 years.

The Committee has chosen Beth White as Executive Director for the organization effective April 4, 2016. The GIPC board recently named Jeff Gaither, Bill Shrewsberry, Michael Gargano, Ellen K. Annala, Mel Raines, and Yvonne Shaheen has officers of the board.

“The GIPC executive committee is so pleased that Beth White is coming on board to lead our organization,” Gaither said. “Her breadth and depth of experience in government and the community make her uniquely qualified to guide our important initiatives.”

White is deeply committed to public safety, advocacy for children and voting rights. She has an extensive history as an elected and appointed official. White most recently served two terms as Marion County Clerk.  She also served as Director of Constituent Services, Public Access Counselor, and Deputy Corporation Counsel in the administration of Mayor Bart Peterson.

White has served as chief legal counsel at the Marion County Office of Family and Children, and Deputy Prosecutor in the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.  She chaired Marion County’s Advisory Council for Polling Place Accessibility, Marion County’s Information Technology Board, Marion County Public Records Commission, and the Indiana Clerks Association’s Legislative Committee. White was also a member of the Marion County Criminal Justice Planning Council and the Board of Julian Center.  She currently serves on the Indianapolis Public Schools Educational Foundation Board.

“I am thrilled to take the helm of this critical community asset,” White said. “GIPC has a proud history of making real and lasting positive change in Indianapolis, and I’m humbled to continue that tradition.”

In 2012, White was named an Indiana Business Journal’s “Women of Influence” and a “Distinguished Barrister” by the Indiana Lawyer. In 2013, she was awarded a “Champion of Diversity” from Indiana Minority Business Magazine.  Her leadership in responding to the federal court decision establishing marriage equality in Indiana in the summer of 2014 earned her a “Commitment to Equality” award from Lambda Legal.
