INDIANAPOLIS (May 8, 2020) – The Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee (GIPC) has convened leaders from all sectors of the community since 1965. Its membership is representative of leading businesses and nonprofit organizations from throughout the Greater Indianapolis area. GIPC focuses on improving the quality of life for all residents of Greater Indianapolis.

Through the Race and Cultural Relations Leadership Network (RCRLN), a committee founded by GIPC over 25 years ago, GIPC seeks to foster greater understanding and positive relationships among diverse populations and to respond to racially and culturally charged issues in the greater Indianapolis community.

On the night of May 7, a tragic series of events resulted in a police-action shooting and the death of Sean Reed. GIPC recognizes the anger, fear and pain caused by this event. We extend our thoughts and prayers to the family, who lost their son and brother. We have faith in our City leadership and police, who have committed to a full and transparent investigation of the facts. We stand firmly for inclusion, equity and fairness for all members of our community.

GIPC and the RCRLN will continue their work to convene neighbors, listen with respect, understand diverse perspectives, bridge divides and strive for change and peace. We urge our entire community to continue the difficult discussions surrounding these events, and we welcome all to engage with the RCRLN. We envision and strive toward a future when everyone in our City feels included and has equitable opportunity. GIPC stands ready to continue the critical work of bringing people in our City together to reach enduring solutions, end violence in Indianapolis and build a just and welcoming City for all.
